More politics...

Another day, another barrage of politics on the news. But, whereas all we've been hearing is 'OMG HUNG PARLIAMENT!', we've heard something different. That being that Gordon Brown is stepping down as leader of the labour party. For me, this didn't come as too much of a shock, I suppose the pressure of britain not wanting him in power must have got to him. However, I do commend his decision, because to swallow his pride like that must have took some courage.

However, this leaves us with a possibly similar situation as when Blair left. With the Lib Dems and Conservatives not seeming to come to an agreement, and labour with a new leader sooner rather than later, we may well end up with yet another unelected PM. Which nobody wants, as we've seen from this election.

I still stand by me hating the conservatives and David Cameron though. What has surprised me is how i've come to dislike Nick Clegg too. I know I've sung his praises before, but as with all the political parties, they are no longer run as representatives of the British people, more a company, keeping things concealed. Especially with these talks, and the Conservatives and Lib Dems holding their cards to their chests very closely.

This annoys me greatly. As a citizen of Britain, I feel a right to know what is happening about my government, and I KNOW I'm not on my own there. Millions of citizens are, in my view, being cheated out of their right to a fair government, because truth be told, we aren't getting the answers we want from our politicians. The TV debates went someway to resolving this, but the hung parliament has bought about what seems to be a civil cold war.

What do I know though. I'm a 17 year old with no right to vote, hence no right to an opinion. Yet it seems to me, I have some valid points. Don't get me started on the voting age. :-)

  1. I think what would be best, although it will never happen is for all the parties to come together and form some sort of coalition together for say, a few months while these talks can continue in private and then either decide who will run the country or put it to a second election. (After 30th December, so I can vote)

Although, with the new leader of lab i think it's more likely we will get a lib/lab coalition in the next few days/weeks.

Jeez, this comment turned into a rant, sorry xD

  2. Yeah, he has loads of courage, so much so it took him 4 days to realise and step down. I don't like him but would have had a little respect if he had done this Friday morning.

Personally, I see the talks between Cameron and Clegg are going pretty well, these things can't be rushed. At the end of the day, its the countries future. While it's not doing any good at the minute, it should get better when the decision has been arrived.

And the unelected PM, I agree with. I mean look at Brown. He was unelected and it creates lots of problems.

I think at the end of the day, Conservatives will get power. Coalition or minority.
